Chila

Human beings are pulled to the earth by will
not gravity.

I met a woman,
a trunk of a woman,
strong and resilient
yet
Lifeless.

Her eyes sunken
down into detachment,

she decided long ago
that life no longer had much to offer
so she consecrated her will
to the dirt
and prayed for her family
and herself
to be clean.

She delivered herself
into the hands
of her
Reaper.

Now (17 years later) her body endures.
Betrayed,
she lays in her wedding bed
surrounded by relics of the life
she returned to no one.
But her will
is irretrievable.

And so she floats
above the clouds and below the stars
flying featherless between terrestrial
malaise
and
cosmic
Bliss.

They say, “She is alive in death.”

She has long been dead in life.

On she floats, purposeless, waiting
in her decrepitude, pained by mortality
and glancing at the sky above her,
Yearning.
